Brassavola nodosa and or var. grandiflora
(Lady of the Night)
Originally from Honduras, this rather small plant in height, often pendulous, is characterized by lanceolate, cylindrical and canaliculate leaves less than 10 to 15 cm long. It produces numerous pale green and white flowers, very fragrant at dusk. Flowering occurs from spring to fall.

Light: She likes to have a lot of light, like a hazy southwest exposure. It can also flower and grow under growing lights.

Watering: It requires good watering (water at room temperature) during the vegetation period. From spring, give it copious watering twice a week: A 15-minute bath (water reaching 3/4 of the pot) and normal watering for the other. In winter, reduce watering to just one per week.

Fertilizer: It begins in spring when new shoots appear until fall. Or, once every 2 weeks with a 25-10-10 orchid fertilizer or 20-20-20 diluted by half and once a month with 15-30-15 flowering fertilizer, using ensuring that the fertilizer application is always followed by copious watering without any fertilizer.

Temperature: Temperate-warm, that is to say; from 21 to 38 degrees Celsius during the day in the summer season and between 18 and 31 degrees Celsius in the winter season. Provide them with a variation of a few degrees lower at night (approx. 5oC). Can also spend the summer outside sheltered from the midday sun. From the beginning of June to the end of August or when nighttime temperatures approach 15oC and above. In this case, ensure that the
plant does not suffer from a lack of water. When returning to school, treat the plant with an insecticide (malathion) in the water of a 15-minute bath and spray the foliage, above and below. Repeat the application once with this same solution, leaving 2 weeks between applications in spring and three weeks in a row for autumn, bringing the plant in the third week.

Repotting: Every 2 years or when the substrate is deteriorated. Turn the pot over while holding the plant; any chips that are not held by the roots will fall easily. Take the opportunity to remove old leafless pseudobulbs and dead roots with good pruning shears previously disinfected with a flame or rubbing alcohol. Moisten the compost 24 hours before repotting. Divide by taking at least 7 or 8 pseudo bulbs.
