Euphorbia erythraeae f. variegata

54.99 $

Euphorbia erythraeae f. variegata is a variegated form of Euphorbia erythraeae, which itself is a notable species within the large genus Euphorbia. Native to East Africa, particularly Eritrea, where it takes its name, this variety has an attractive combination of colors on its stems, combining shades of green with white or cream marbling, and sometimes even shades of pink. This variegation gives the plant a decorative appearance much appreciated by collectors.

Origin: Euphorbia erythraeae is native to arid regions of East Africa, particularly Eritrea and surrounding areas, where it grows in desert conditions. The variegata form was developed through horticultural breeding to highlight its variegated foliage characteristics.

Growth: Like the type species, Euphorbia erythraeae f. variegata is slow growing and can reach considerable height, forming erect columns reminiscent of the appearance of a cactus. Mature specimens can develop several branches from the base, creating an impressive silhouette.

Flowers: This plant can produce small flowers grouped in cyathes, typical of the genus Euphorbia, although flowering is relatively rare when grown indoors. Flowers may appear at the apex of the stems, especially when grown under optimal conditions and after several years of growth.

Light: Prefers exposure in full sun to partial shade. Bright light encourages healthy growth and maintains the intensity of the plant's variegated colors.

Watering: Watering should be moderate. Allow the medium to dry completely between waterings to prevent root rot. In winter, watering should be reduced to simulate the arid conditions of its natural habitat.

Substrate: Well-draining soil is essential. A mix for cacti and succulents, with a good proportion of coarse sand or perlite, is ideal to ensure good drainage.

Toxicity: Like other members of the genus Euphorbia, Euphorbia erythraeae f. variegata contains a milky sap which can be toxic and irritating to the skin and eyes. It is advisable to handle this plant with care and keep it out of reach of children and pets.
