Stephania are flowering plants in the Menispermaceae family which has around 45 different species. They are native to the eastern and southern parts of Asia and Australia. Caudiciform plants form a caudate, that is, a stem, trunk or aerial roots that are wide and swollen.
These types of plants are also considered "deciduous" because they lose some or all of their leaves at certain times during the year.
