Bougainvillea 'Pink Pixie'
Bougainvillea 'Pink Pixie' is a compact, free-flowering climbing plant known for its bright pink bracts surrounding small white flowers. Unlike other bougainvillea varieties, 'Pink Pixie' remains relatively small, making it an excellent choice for smaller spaces or growing in pots.
Origin: Bougainvillea is native to South America, particularly Brazil, Peru, and Argentina. 'Pink Pixie' is a hybrid cultivar selected for its compact size and ability to flower profusely even indoors.
Growth: This plant exhibits moderate growth and remains relatively small compared to other bougainvilleas, typically reaching between 60 cm and 1 meter in height. When grown indoors, it maintains a compact, bushy shape, ideal for small spaces or for use as an ornamental plant on a balcony or terrace.
Flowers: The true flowers of Bougainvillea 'Pink Pixie' are small and white, but they are surrounded by vibrant pink bracts that give the plant its spectacular appearance. Flowering is continuous throughout the year under good light conditions.
Light: This plant requires bright, direct light to thrive. It should receive at least 6 hours of sunlight per day to produce abundant blooms. Indoors, place it near a sunny window to maximize available light.
Watering: Water moderately, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Bougainvillea 'Pink Pixie' tolerates drought well, but will bloom best with regular watering during the growing season. Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot.
Substrate: Use a well-draining potting soil, such as a houseplant potting mix with perlite. Make sure the pot has good drainage to prevent waterlogging.
Toxicity: Bougainvillea 'Pink Pixie' is not poisonous, but its thorns can cause skin irritation. Therefore, care should be taken when handling the plant, especially when pruning or maintaining it.
